The Cook Islands are a self-governing group of islands that are located in the South Pacific Ocean. The Cook Islands flag resembles the flags of former and current British colonies. The Union Jack can be found in the upper left hand corner. This design was chosen to honor the former British colonies in the Pacific region.
Just like many of the other flags that are based around the Union Jack, the background of the Cook Islands flag is blue. This feature also represents the Pacific Ocean, as well the ideal of peace that is so important to the people of the Cook Islands.
An additional feature of the Cook Islands flag includes stars. Except, they are arranged in a symmetrical circle of 15 stars. These 15 stars represent the fifteen islands that make up the Cook Islands.
